What Fruits and Vegetables Can I Feed My French Bulldog?

Every French bulldog owner would want their French Bulldogs to be in good health. You can ensure this happens, most Frenchie owners try to provide several healthy snacks for them, which are usually high in calories and full of chemicals. Some other times, the cautious Frenchie owner would want to feed their French Bulldog with raw feed to make sure that they don’t ingest those chemicals that may react funnily in their body.

Can we step back and think for a second... Are there any chances that you can feed your French Bulldog with fruits and veggies? Will they enjoy these as part of their diets? These and many more questions are going to be answered in this article.

Do Frenchies like Fruits?

Vegetables and fruits can be an excellent snack for your French Bulldog. Although your French Bulldog does not need these vegetables, they are not essentials, but they can come in handy to add to your meal once in a while.

You should exercise care when giving them any meal because French bulldogs can eat just about anything, even things that will eventually cause harm to them. This is why you have to apply caution when feeding them.

You have to be very familiar with the fruit you are feeding them with; and the vegetables that you give them also, it is essential that you know the ones to steer clear of.

Feeding your French bulldog fruits and vegetables

It can be especially challenging to stay on the lawn while enjoying your crunchy carrots or watermelon; your French Bulldog can indicate its interest in a not-so-welcomed way.

Here are a list of vegetables you can give your French Bulldog:

  • Apples
  • Apples are very sweet and easy to consume. It is one of the most trusted fruits humans consume daily. It is also the number one fruit you can give your French Bulldog. Apples are rich in Vitamin C, and this vitamin helps to repair worn out tissues. It is very rich in pectin and will help in digestion also.

    However, apple seeds are not healthy for your French Bulldog, so before you feed them apples, do well to select out the seeds. Apple seeds contain cyanide, which can be harmful to your French Bulldog. Wash the apples thoroughly and cut them into small sizes for you French Bulldog, remove the seeds, and you are good to go.

  • Pears
  • You can also offer them pears. Pears are a close relative to apples and cutting them into smaller sizes can go a long way to ensuring that your French bulldogs enjoy them.

  • How about Bananas?
  • Bananas are known to have more calories than every other fruit. Hence even if they are suitable for consumption by your French Bulldog, you should not give them bananas every day. A good routine will be once in 3 days.


    Banana will help prevent constipation and obesity in French bulldogs. Peeling the skin of the banana is also essential, it may look silly, but no instruction is too much when it concerns health and what you eat.

  • Green Beans
  • These beans are known to be rich in minerals and vitamins. Every species of green beans are perfect for your French bulldogs and it is okay for them to consume. But you should ensure that you give them these beans in a natural form. Canned green beans should be offered only after you confirm that it has low salt or no-salt content.

  • Lettuce or Cabbage
  • There is no cabbage or lettuce that your French Bulldog cannot consume; they are safe products. This will help improve the fur of your dog and improve digestion too.

    Cabbage should however not be given in large quantities as it contains thiocyanate which occurs naturally in vegetables. This compound can affect the thyroid gland and makes it increase in size, leading to hyperthyroidism. When cooked properly, this compound can be removed from the vegetable and consumed safely.

  • Watermelons
  • Watermelons can also come in handy on hot days. Your French bulldogs can be given watermelon to help them rehydrate when hot. Watermelon has 90% of water and has a sweet taste. Watermelon has a lot of nutrients also. Note that you have to remove the seeds before feeding it to your French Bulldog.

  • Mangoes, and Oranges
  • Mangoes, and oranges can also come in handy for your French Bulldog. But always remove the seeds and do not give them too much of them.

    I have found you must limit sweet fruit and vegetables for your frenchie as the sugars in them can cause an overabundance of yeast fungal infection in which frencie ears are susceptible too. Please make your advice on sweet fruits and veggies to state these foods must be feed only occasionally and certainly not daily.
